The Hayes Foundation considers grant requests to help capable Rutland County students participate in selective activities during the school year. These activities may be established programs or self-designed projects; in either case under the supervision of a qualified and accountable instructor who is willing to provide an evaluation at the end of the program or project.

School Year Grants are awarded for unusual self-designed projects or intensive study in selective programs during the school year. Generally speaking the Foundation does not fund organized school activities, class trips, or music lessons. 

There is no deadline for applications (unless your specific program has specified one), but review by the Hayes Board may involve direct discussion with the applicant, so generous time allowance must be made for response.  

Some examples of School Year grants that have been made in the past include:

•     Funding a student’s instruction in making bows for stringed instruments, resulting in the production of several finished pieces

•     Participation in an accelerated and enriched math instructional program resulting in high school credit for two years’ math in one semester

•     Participation in the Johns Hopkins University CTY distance learning courses

•     Enrollment at Simons Rock at Bard College for high school students earning college credits

•    Study abroad for students with specific academic goals.
